The History of Area 51

area 51

This secret base goes by many names: Area 51, Groom Lake, The Ranch and Dreamland.

In 1955, deep in the Nevada desert, a secret base was being built to test the U-2 spy plane which was under development by Lockheed Martin under the direction of Kelly Johnson. Once construction was complete the U-2 was secretly flown to Area 51 to begin numerous test flights before the aircraft was put into service to spy on the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

The next aircraft to be tested at the base was the SR-71 Blackbird, the fastest aircraft in the world known to the public. Unlike the U-2, the Blackbird was never shot down when flying reconnaissance missions for the United States. No aircraft that we know of has beaten its record on both accounts. The Blackbird was soon retired from service once reconnaissance satellites were put into space around the planet.

The F-117 Nighthawk which flew missions over Baghdad during “Desert Storm” was also test flown at the base. Alas, it does not have a clean track record after being shot down over Yugoslavia by a surface-to-air missile.

Other aircraft like the rumored SR-75 Penetrator—the successor to the SR-71 and the Aurora has also been rumored to be test flown at the base. These aircraft are rumored to have broken the SR-71’s speed record and can leave our atmosphere. Perhaps, as some believe, they are the same aircraft.

It wasn’t until the 1980’s when a physicist named Bob Lazar made an astonishing claim that put Area 51 on the map, making it famous. He told George Knapp, a reporter for KLAS in Nevada, that he had worked on alien technology at a site called S-4 near Area 51. He also claims that the UFO from Roswell, New Mexico that crashed in 1947 is also stored at Area S-4.

There are even rumors that there are many sub-levels below Area 51 that house alien exchange students and an underground high-speed rail system that connects with other military and alien and military bases across the planet.

The perimeter of the base is heavily monitored and guarded. Anyone who tries to cross the perimeter is stopped by the “Cammo Dudes”—military base security—and put under arrest by the local sheriff's office.
